A 20-week ultrasound, sometimes referred to as an anatomy scan or abnormality scan, is a prenatal ultrasound performed between weeks 18 and 22 of pregnancy. It looks at the physical development of the fetus and can identify some congenital illnesses as well as major anatomical anomalies. Your healthcare provider will use an ultrasound—either 2D, 3D, or even 4D—to take images of the fetus inside your uterus. When doing an ultrasound, the sonographer will take measurements and ensure that the fetus is growing in line with its age. You could also learn the gender of the fetus during this session.
